Title: "We All Bleed Red"
Disclaimer: All RENT characters, settings, plots, and lyrics belong to Jonathon Larson's estate, and I make no claim on them.
Characters/Pairings: Mark, possible Mark/Roger if you squint from a block away.
Author's Notes & Ramblings: For the challenge "Red." Dark themes, but that's sort of a given, really. I would put this at a middling R for said dark themes. Mark cleaning up after April. Exactly 100 words.
Everyone pitied Roger, because his girlfriend had died.
No one pitied Mark, even though he was the one who had cleaned up.
No one pitied Mark, even though the first day he could only clean for a few minutes at a time before darting out, gagging, eyes watering.
No one pitied Mark, even though it was his birthday that Sunday.
No one pitied Mark, even though he went without food the next week because he spent his last few cents on extra cleaning supplies.
No one pitied Mark because he never brought it up.
“We all bleed red,” he’d shrug.
